How We Built a Custom Wall for a Samsung Frame TV in Midtown West

A Samsung Frame TV built-in wall is supposed to disappear into the room and look like a piece of art. That’s the whole idea. But when you just hang the TV on a bare wall, you still end up looking at a black box with a cable running down to a console.

This is a project we did for a young family in Briar Hill, in Midtown West Toronto. They had a 65″ Samsung Frame and a clear goal: make it look built-in, and give them closed storage underneath for everyday family life. Here’s how we designed and built it.

Why a Samsung Frame Needs More Than a Wall Mount

The Frame comes with a slim mount that sits the TV close to the wall, and that’s a good start. But a few things still give it away as “just a TV”: the gap around the edges, the One Connect box that has to live somewhere, and the cable that connects them.

To get the real framed-art look, you have to plan the wall around the TV — not mount the TV onto whatever wall is already there. That means a recessed panel sized to the Frame, moulding that reads like a picture frame, and a place to hide the box and cables completely. None of that happens with a bracket and a stud finder.

Our Approach: Designing Around the Frame

Our client came to us with a clear picture in her head — classic, soft edges, nothing cold or minimal. She wanted the Frame to sit inside a paneled wall, with built-in cabinets below that could actually hold things. We designed the millwork so the TV recesses into a moulded panel and reads as the centerpiece of the room.

With a toddler and a baby in the house, open shelves were never going to work. The brief was closed storage — doors, not display. So the lower run of the unit is all cabinetry: paneled MDF doors with concealed hinges, finished in a soft off-white, with antique brass knobs to keep it warm and classic. Toys, remotes and clutter go behind doors. The wall stays calm.

Keeping the One Connect box accessible but hidden

The Frame’s One Connect box is what lets the TV stay so slim — but it has to be reachable. Samsung even notes that the wireless version can act up if it’s sealed inside a closed metal cabinet. So we planned a ventilated spot for it inside the lower cabinetry, hidden behind a door but easy to get to if it ever needs a reset. Hidden, not buried.

The Details That Mattered

The panel behind the TV isn’t flat drywall. We ran 1/2″ moulding to create framed sections on either side of the Frame, so the TV sits inside a composition instead of floating alone. It’s a small thing that does most of the work in making the wall feel designed rather than assembled.

Aged White finish and brass knobs

The whole unit is finished in Sherwin-Williams Aged White — soft, warm, not stark. Paired with the antique brass knobs, it lands exactly where our client wanted it: classic and gentle, the kind of wall that won’t feel dated in five years.

Can you build a custom cabinet around a Samsung Frame TV?

Yes. We design the millwork so the Frame sits flush inside a recessed panel, the way it’s meant to look. The cabinetry below holds media gear and everyday storage, while the TV reads as framed art on the wall instead of a screen sitting on furniture.

Where does the One Connect box go in a built-in?

Most of our clients go with the 65″, which balances presence and proportion on a standard living room wall. We size the surrounding panel and cabinetry to the room so the TV feels intentional, not oversized — the millwork frames it rather than competing with it.

I got my bedroom and family room popcorn ceiling removed, painted, baseboards and crown moulding added in these two rooms. Johanna spends lots of time protecting your area and cleans the place every day before done for the day. I have never heard of rooms actually mopped after work is done. Johanna literally looks for imperfections on the walls and ceilings using headlamp. She is just amazing.
