A Custom TV Wall with Closed Storage in Briar Hill, Midtown West

When this young family in Briar Hill reconfigured their living room, they had one goal: turn a wall that was never set up for a TV into a real focal point. They wanted the TV mounted on the wall, built in properly — and with a toddler and a baby at home, they needed closed storage to hide the everyday clutter too. A custom TV wall in Briar Hill was the way to get both in a single built-in piece.

Here’s how we designed and built it.

Why This Briar Hill Family Wanted a Built-In TV Wall

The brief was simple and clear. They had a toddler and a baby at home, a 65″ Samsung Frame they loved, and a living room that felt unanchored. What they didn’t want was a media console that would just collect clutter on top and around it.

They came to us for two things: a wall that would make the room feel designed, and closed storage built right in — so the toys, the remotes and the day-to-day mess could disappear behind doors. A custom TV wall in Briar Hill was the way to get both in a single built-in piece.

How We Designed the Wall for Their Living Room

Our client knew her taste — classic, soft, nothing cold or minimal. We designed the millwork around that, and around the room as it actually was, not as a blank box.

Working with the existing layout and window

The living room is open to the dining area, with a big window on the TV wall side letting in a lot of light. We sized the built-in so it sits comfortably under the window line and keeps the room feeling open. The client was also swapping her roller blind for soft pleated sheer curtains, so we planned the wall to work with those curtains framing the window beside it.

Closed storage sized for a young family

The lower run of the unit is all closed cabinetry — paneled doors with concealed hinges, no open shelves to gather dust or little hands. There’s real volume in there for toys, blankets and media gear. Above, the wall stays calm and uncluttered, with the TV as the single focal point. That balance is the whole point of the piece.

Before and After

The room went from a blank wall with furniture floating in front of it to a living room with a clear anchor and a lot less visible clutter.

The Details That Mattered

Aged White to keep it soft and classic

The whole unit is finished in Sherwin-Williams Aged White — a soft, warm off-white that reads classic rather than stark. With antique brass knobs on the cabinet doors, the piece feels gentle and timeless, exactly the look our client pictured. It’s the kind of wall that won’t feel dated in a few years.

Sheer curtains and the built-in working together

Because we knew the sheer curtains were coming, we kept the built-in’s lines clean and let the window and the wall share the space instead of fighting for it. The result is a corner of the room that feels considered — soft light through the sheers, the built-in grounding the wall below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you build custom TV walls in Midtown Toronto?

Yes. We’re a Toronto design-build studio and we work across central neighbourhoods including Briar Hill, Forest Hill and the Eglinton corridor. We handle both the design and the build, so the same team that draws your TV wall is the one that installs it.

How long does a custom TV wall project take?

From design approval to install, most of our TV wall projects run a few weeks, depending on cabinetry lead times. The fabrication happens off-site while your room stays usable, and the on-site install itself is typically completed in a couple of days.

Can a built-in TV wall include hidden storage for kids’ things?

Absolutely — it’s one of the most popular requests from young families. We design closed lower cabinets that swallow toys, remotes and clutter, while the upper portion stays clean around the TV. You get a polished focal wall that still works for everyday family life.

What’s the difference between hiring a designer and a design-build studio?

A designer hands you drawings and you find your own trades. A design-build studio like ours does both — we design the wall and build it, so there’s one point of accountability and the finished piece matches the drawing instead of getting lost in translation.
